Compressing Time

Steph is an interdisciplinary artist exploring our relationships to shifting landscapes and ecologies. Her practice spans sculpture, site specific installation and participatory work.  She is interested in how working by hand with vernacular materials can allow deeper connections to form between the human body and the unique history and ecology of a place, deepening a sense of belonging and enabling a more embodied understanding.

During her Earth Art Fellowship at the University of Bristol School of Earth Sciences, Steph has been exploring the fluctuating landscape of the River Avon, and the interplay of geological, ecological and tidal cycles. She has drawn from geologists, oceanographers, and flood mapping projections.

Working with gathered organic materials, Steph has been installing transient, fragile works along the river banks, and engaging in subtle interventions and disruptions along it’s course.
